Because of this week’s heavy rain, Alabama Power Co. has opened spillway gates at Henry Dam on the Coosa River. Spillway gates will open later today at Logan Martin, Lay, Mitchell and Jordan dams to help manage flows on the Coosa and rising lake levels, according to a news release from Alabama Power.
ReplyDeleteWeiss Lake, also on the Coosa, is expected to crest near its summer pool level of 564 feet on Friday or Saturday. On the Warrior River, Smith Lake is expected to rise above its normal summer pool level of 510 feet sometime today and reach a peak elevation near 513 feet in the next day or two, the release states.
Alabama Power will continue to closely monitor conditions on the lakes and manage resources carefully. Individuals with boats and other water-related equipment and facilities should always be alert to changing conditions on Alabama Power reservoirs and be prepared to take the necessary steps to protect their property, the release states.
